Biking - My Anti-Drug Biking

Do you dream of winning the Tour de France or are you more of a BMX wheelie poppin' type? Biking is a challenging sport and a fun pastime depending on your level of interest and enthusiasm. Whether you're going the distance on your 10-speed bike or double peg stalling at the X-Games, you'll need skill, dexterity, and confidence to succeed on the greatest two-wheel invention of all time.

Freevibe visitors Cam, Andrew, and Scott submitted the following about their Anti-Drug: Biking. Cam even sent us this picture him catching some big air. Be sure to check all of Freevibe’s “My Anti-Drug” pages regularly to see if your submission is featured. We want to hear from you.

Cam from Florida sent this picture and writes:

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to sail through the air on a bike over a 38-foot gap? I don't, because that is what I do, I race in the BMX Pro class in the National Bicycle League (NBL). It has been my dream to become a BMX racing pro, and now it is a reality. While my friends were smoking weed and working for 5 dollars an hour at McDonalds or Winn Dixie, I was out at the track sprinting my brains out to get faster. I hate drugs, my brother almost died from crack, my friends have gotten hurt after drinking beer, and most commonly people who smoke weed end up unhappy and feel like less of a person. I say we all have one life to live, let us reach for our dreams and not let meaningless drugs tear us down.

Andrew from Massachusetts writes:

As I click my feet onto my pedals it starts, the feeling of absolute freedom, the livening of my senses, the pump of adrenaline. When I kick off and start flying down the mountain, just me and my bike, that’s all the high I need, why would I let drugs interrupt the peace that comes with my favorite sport? Knowing that one wrong move is the difference between a perfect run and tumbling wildly down the hill makes my mind sharp, and brings a new feeling of exactness to my senses and every little thing that they pick up. All that drugs would do is dull me and take that feeling away — the euphoric feeling of near flight that comes from downhill mountain biking, and that is why it is my anti-drug.

Will from Maryland writes:

Each day after school, I try to ride my bike as much as I can. I love going down steep hills, so I can gain speed. I enjoy mountain biking as well, because of the challenges it throws at me. Additionally, I like go over bike jumps and like to do wheelies. When I go biking, I feel as if I’m free. I like the thrill of the wind rushing at me more quickly as I go even faster. But if I did drugs, I would no longer be free. I might become addicted, and wouldn’t be able to stop. My anti-drug is biking.
